Jason Riis, PHD
CEO & Chief Behavioral Scientist

Jason Riis, PHD

Jason Riis founded Behavioralize in 2018 on the premise that behavioral science could be leveraged to drive growth across industries. He saw a gap between what academics were uncovering about how human decision making worked, and how organizations were managing human decision processes (for all stakeholders). His consulting work has helped Fortune 500 companies, startups, and non-profits develop and test initiatives inspired by behavioral science. He is passionate about behavior change related to health, wellness, and technology.
 

Jason’s background has positioned him well to execute on the promise of behavioral science. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman, who is widely seen as the “founder” of behavioral economics. Jason spent over a decade as a full-time faculty member at Harvard Business School and the Wharton School. He remains affiliated as a Senior Fellow at Wharton’s Behavior Change for Good Initiative. His PhD is in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Michigan. Jason’s research has been published in leading health and business journals. 


Jason lives in Philadelphia with his wife and three children. He enjoys soccer and cooking with one pan.

Jared Peterson, MA

Behavioral Science Associate

Jason Peterson has a background in psychology and data science and has a Master’s degree in Behavioral and Decision Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania. His main interests are in the science of judgment, decision making, and motivation - in other words, how do people know what is true, what to do about it, and then actually get themselves to do it?

 

Jared enjoys using his behavioral science background in his own life to make better decisions and to motivate himself to exercise, read, and do the many other things he wishes he did more of. He brings both scientific principles and personal practicality to solve clients’ behavioral challenges.

 

Jared lives in Philadelphia with his wife. He enjoys rock climbing and kayaking; and aspires to be minimally competent at both someday.

Christina Rancan, BS

Behavioral Science Associate

Christina Rancan has a background in business and decision making having graduated from the Wharton School with a degree in Behavioral Economics and Operations, Information, & Decisions. Her main interests are in the use of nudges to promote positive behaviors when it comes to health, education, and personal finance. Christina enjoys combining qualitative and quantitative data to help organizations identify and address the behavioral challenges their stakeholders face.

 

Christina was a student-athlete on the Cross Country and Track & Field teams at the University of Pennsylvania and is now adjusting to the opportunity-for-inaction-laden workout routine of a retired D1 athlete. She has spent quarantine reading, growing to enjoy cooking, and learning how to ski.

Jeff Trueman, MA

Behavioral Science Strategist

Jeff Trueman has extensive experience working in the capital markets and is the founder and board member of multiple start-ups. He is driven to help organizations reach their full potential, through proper market research, reducing behavioral barriers, and quality productization. He believes all companies, big or small, should have access to the tools they need in order to succeed. Jeff focuses his practice on small to mid-size companies looking to scale up. 

 

Jeff has a Master’s degree in Behavioral and Decision Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania. He and his family are based in California, but they are now living in Philadelphia to experience East Coast life.
